Description
Origin
The Yucca rostrata originates from the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. This plant grows in arid and rocky areas, as well as in mountainous landscapes. In its natural habitat, Yucca rostrata can withstand very harsh winters with deep frost. The plant is also known as Beaked Yucca.
Characteristics
The Yucca rostrata is an evergreen tree that can grow up to 4.5 meters tall. The plant has long, narrow, gray-green leaves that form a plume at the top of the trunk. The leaves can reach up to 60 cm in length. Yucca rostrata blooms in the summer, with pale yellow flowers that rise on stalks well above the leaves.
Care
The Yucca rostrata requires full sun and well-drained soil. Although the plant is drought tolerant, Yucca rostrata also needs to be watered regularly, especially during dry periods in the summer. This plant is cold-resistant but needs protection from excess moisture during the winter months. Pruning is generally not necessary, although dead leaves can be removed to improve the appearance of the plant.
