Description

Origin
The Yucca elephantipes, also known as the Star Palm, originates in southern North America and Central America. It is primarily found in dry and desert areas, such as Mexico and Guatemala. This plant belongs to the Asparagaceae family and has spread over the last centuries to other parts of the world, including Europe.

Characteristics

The Yucca elephantipes is an evergreen plant known for its straight, tall, woody stems, known as ‘elephant’s feet’. The ends of the stems bear clusters of long, sharp, light green leaves. These leaves can reach up to sixty centimeters in length. What makes the Yucca elephantipes special is the magnificent inflorescence that sometimes develops, consisting of large, bell-shaped white flowers.

Care

The care of the Yucca elephantipes is relatively simple, which is why it is often used as an indoor plant. It prefers bright, indirect light, but can also survive in partial shade. Watering should be moderate, especially in winter, to prevent the roots from being waterlogged. Additionally, the plant prefers well-drained soil and an environment with relatively low humidity.
