Description

Origin
The Yucca elephantipes, also known as the Star Palm, originates in southern North America and Central America. It is mainly found in dry and desert areas, such as in Mexico and Guatemala. This plant belongs to the Asparagaceae family and has spread over the last centuries to other parts of the world, including Europe.

Characteristics

The Yucca elephantipes is an evergreen plant recognized for its straight, tall, woody trunks called ‘elephant feet’. The ends of the trunks bear clusters of long, sharp, light green leaves. These leaves can reach up to sixty centimeters in length. What makes the Yucca elephantipes unique is the beautiful inflorescence that sometimes develops, consisting of large bell-shaped white flowers.

Care

Caring for the Yucca elephantipes is relatively simple, which is why it is often used as a houseplant. It prefers bright, indirect light but can also survive in partial shade. Watering should be moderate, especially in winter, to prevent the roots from becoming waterlogged. Moreover, the plant prefers well-drained soil and an environment with relatively low humidity.
