Description

Origin
The Yucca elephantipes, also known as the Star Palm, originates from the southern part of North America and Central America. It is mainly found in dry and desert areas, such as in Mexico and Guatemala. This plant belongs to the Asparagaceae family and has spread over the past centuries to other parts of the world, including Europe.

Characteristics

The Yucca elephantipes is an evergreen plant known for its straight, tall, woody stems, called ‘elephant foot’. The ends of the stems carry clusters of long, sharp, light green leaves. These leaves can reach up to sixty centimeters in length. What makes the Yucca elephantipes unique is the beautiful inflorescence that sometimes develops, composed of large, bell-shaped white flowers.

Care

The Yucca elephantipes is relatively easy to care for, which is why it is often used as a houseplant. It prefers bright, indirect light but can also survive in partial shade. Watering should be moderate, especially in winter, to avoid waterlogged roots. Additionally, the plant prefers well-drained soil and an environment with relatively low humidity.
