Description

Origin
The Trithrinax brasiliensis, also known as the needle palm of Brazil, originates from South America, mainly in Brazil, Uruguay, and Northern Argentina. This palm particularly prefers sandy or rocky soils and can survive in both dry and humid climates. It is often found in regions ranging from high savannas to coastal beaches.

Characteristics

The Trithrinax brasiliensis is a very robust and slow-growing palm that can reach heights of six to eight meters. It has long, rigid, grayish-green leaves that can vary from two to three meters in length. The trunk of this palm is covered with a unique pattern of old leaf bases, giving it a very striking appearance. It produces small round yellow fruits, which are very popular with the local wildlife.

Care

The Trithrinax brasiliensis requires little maintenance and is resistant to both drought and frost. This palm prefers full sun and withstands saline winds, making it an ideal plant for coastal areas. Although the plant can survive in a variety of soils, it prefers well-draining soils to prevent root rot. Overwatering should be avoided, especially during the winter season, as the plant uses little water at this time.
