Description

Origin
The Trichocereus pasacana originates from South America, specifically from northwestern Argentina and the highlands of Bolivia. However, the precise origin is uncertain because the species has spread to different regions due to human intervention.

Characteristics

The Trichocereus pasacana, also known as Pasaqana, is characterized by its status as a colossal cactus and it can reach a height of ten meters or more in the wild. It has a color ranging from deep gray to bluish-green and possesses 10 to 15 ribs covered with spines. It’s a very slow-growing species and it blooms sporadically, usually only when the plant is mature. The flowers are large, bell-shaped, and bloom mainly at night.

Care

Despite the size of the Trichocereus pasacana, care is not too complex. The cactus prefers a sunny location and is very drought resistant. Overwatering should be avoided as it can cause root rot. Temperatures should vary as little as possible, as the plant does not tolerate cold well. In winter, it is advisable to bring the cactus indoors to prevent damage from frost.
