Description
Origin
The Tradescantia zebrina ‘Pink Paradise’ originates from Central and North America, where it grows in the wild. It is a variety of Tradescantia zebrina, a species of plants in the Commelinaceae family. The name was first published by botanist Carl Linnaeus in 1753, but today it is mostly known as ‘Wandering Dude’.
Characteristics
The Tradescantia zebrina ‘Pink Paradise’ is a remarkable indoor plant with its bi-colored pinkish leaves. These leaves are striped with dark pink and light green, giving them an almost velvety appearance. The plant mainly grows downwards and can reach a length of about 1.2 meters. Under optimal conditions, the ‘Pink Paradise’ can also produce small three-pointed purple flowers, which typically appear in the spring.
Care Instructions
For caring for the Tradescantia zebrina ‘Pink Paradise’, it is important to know that the plant feels best with indirect light and an average room temperature. Too much direct sunlight can fade the colors of the leaves. The plant does not have high soil requirements, but it cannot tolerate waterlogged soil. Therefore, it is recommended to opt for well-draining potting soil and only water the plant when the top layer of soil is dry to the touch. Additionally, the plant can be lightly fertilized during the growing season.
