Description

Origin
The Trachycarpus fortunei, also known as the Chinese fan palm, originates from the Far East. Its range includes parts of China, India, Myanmar, and Japan, mainly in mountainous regions. The plant has adapted to harsh winters and survives well in different climates.

Characteristics

The Trachycarpus fortunei can reach a height of 10 to 12 meters and is distinguished by its slender, fibrous trunk. The plant’s leaves form a rounded crown and are fan-shaped, hence its name “Chinese fan palm.” Each leaf is deeply cut almost to the base, creating separate leaf segments that form a fan shape pattern. The plant produces small yellow flowers, and the fruits are small, round, blue-black drupes.

Care

For the care of the Trachycarpus fortunei, it is important to know that the plant does well in full sun as well as in shade and is cold-resistant. Ideally, the plant should be planted in well-drained soil as it does not tolerate excessive water well. Although the Trachycarpus fortunei requires little maintenance, regular fertilization can improve the overall health and appearance of the plant. Pruning is generally not necessary except to remove dead leaves and maintain a neat appearance of the plant.
