Description

Origin
The Strelitzia nicolai, also known as the Giant White Bird of Paradise, originates from South Africa. It is a species of the Strelitziaceae family. The plant owes its name to the Russian Tsar Nicholas I.

Characteristics

It is a tall plant with shiny, leathery leaves. The leaves are dark green, lance-shaped, and can reach up to two meters in length. The plant produces remarkable flowers in white and blue shades, resembling the head of a bird of paradise, hence its name. The flowers generally bloom at the end of winter or the beginning of spring.

Care

The Strelitzia nicolai needs a lot of light but does not tolerate direct sunlight very well. The plant requires a lot of water, especially during the growth period, but it is also important to ensure good drainage to prevent water from stagnating. This plant prefers a nutrient-rich substrate and can benefit from regular feeding during the growth period. The Strelitzia nicolai can be placed outdoors during the summer, but it needs to be protected from frost in the winter.
