Description
Origin
The Stetsonia coryne, commonly called the Toothpick Cactus, originates from northern Argentina and Bolivia. The plant can mainly be found in dry and semi-dry regions of these countries. Despite its origin, the Stetsonia coryne is now present worldwide, mainly as an ornamental plant.
Characteristics
The Stetsonia coryne is a cactus that can reach a height of about 8 meters. The plant has a green, columnar stem with long, hard white spines. During the summer, large white flowers can bloom at the top of the stem. From these flowers, reddish-colored fruits form.
Care
The Stetsonia coryne prefers a sunny location and well-drained soil. It is drought-resistant and requires little water, especially during the winter months. It is advisable not to expose the plant to temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius to prevent any damage. Although the plant requires little maintenance, it is recommended to fertilize it annually for optimal growth.
