Description
Origin
The Stetsonia coryne, commonly known as the Toothpick Cactus, originates from northern Argentina and Bolivia. The plant can mainly be found in dry and semi-dry regions of these countries. Despite its origin, the Stetsonia coryne is now present worldwide, primarily as an ornamental plant.
Characteristics
The Stetsonia coryne is a cactus that can reach a height of about 8 meters. The plant has a green, columnar stem with long, hard, white spines. During the summer, large white flowers may bloom at the top of the stem. From these flowers, reddish-colored fruits form.
Care
The Stetsonia coryne prefers a sunny location and well-drained soil. It is drought-tolerant and requires little water, especially during the winter months. It is recommended not to expose the plant to temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius to prevent any damage. Although the plant requires little maintenance, it is advisable to fertilize it annually for optimal growth.
