Description
Origin
The Stenocereus pruinosus is a species of cactus native to Mexico. It is mainly found in the dry regions of Mexico, such as Oaxaca and Puebla, where it grows in semi-arid environments with little rainfall.
Characteristics
The Stenocereus pruinosus is a large, upright-growing cactus with several branches, reaching an average height of between 4 and 8 meters. The plant is gray-green in color and its stems are covered with large spines. It is known for its round, purple fruits that can be eaten raw or cooked. Another feature of this plant is how it blooms: during late spring and early summer, the plant blooms at night with large white flowers.
Care
The Stenocereus pruinosus requires a sunny location and well-drained soil to prevent root rot. Since this plant is native to a dry climate, it requires little water. During the summer months, the soil should dry out well between waterings. In winter, when the plant is dormant, it needs almost no water. Weekly inspection of the plant for pests and diseases is recommended, as this plant can be susceptible to certain types of insects and fungi.
