Description

Origin
Schefflera Actinophylla ‘Amate’, also known as the umbrella plant, originates from the tropical forests of Australia and New Guinea. It’s a popular indoor plant that belongs to the Araliaceae family. The plant was given the nickname ‘Amate’ from the culture that first collected and cultivated it.

Characteristics

Schefflera Actinophylla ‘Amate’ is a vigorously growing plant and can reach up to 15 meters tall in nature. The plant has shiny, long, leathery leaves that grow in clusters at the end of stems, resembling umbrellas. ‘Amate’ rarely blooms indoors, but when it does, it produces long clusters of red flowers filled with nectar, attracting birds and bats in its natural environment.

Care

Schefflera Actinophylla ‘Amate’ requires a moderate to warm climate similar to its tropical origin. The plant thrives well in partial to bright indirect light and needs well-drained soil to prevent root rot. Regular watering combined with good air humidity is essential for the health of ‘Amate’. However, overwatering, especially in winter, can be harmful.
