Description

Origin
The Sansevieria zeylanica ‘Compacta’, also known as the Mother-in-law’s Tongue, is native to West Africa. The plant primarily grows in dry, rocky areas. Over the years, the plant has been exported to many other regions of the world, including North America and Europe.

Characteristics

The Sansevieria zeylanica ‘Compacta’ is characterized by its compact form and long upright leaves. These leaves are green in color and have horizontal stripes of a light cream color. The plant can reach a height of about 65-70 cm but remains relatively narrow in width. The plant rarely blooms, but when it does, white flowers appear.

Care

Caring for the Sansevieria zeylanica ‘Compacta’ is relatively simple due to its strong and resilient nature. The plant needs partial shade and does not tolerate direct sunlight. Overwatering should be avoided, as the roots are prone to rot. The plant handles dry air well and is thus suitable for heated spaces. Generally, the plant withstands temperature fluctuations, but it is recommended not to let the temperature drop below 15 degrees Celsius.
