Description
Origin
The Sansevieria zeylanica, also known as the Snake Plant, originates from Sri Lanka and India. The plant mainly grows on rocky soils, where it has developed excellent adaptations to survive in dry environments. This makes it a very resilient indoor plant that requires little care.
Characteristics
The Sansevieria zeylanica is characterized by its rigid, upright, sword-shaped leaves with interesting marbling. The leaves are dark green with light green horizontal stripes. The plant can reach up to a meter in height and has a slow growth rate. Additionally, Sansevieria zeylanica is an air-purifying plant, meaning it can improve indoor air quality by eliminating certain toxic substances.
Care
Caring for a Sansevieria zeylanica is relatively simple. The plant does not need much water and thrives both in direct, intense sunlight and light shade. It is important to avoid placing the plant in cold temperatures or drafty conditions. Over-watering can lead to root rot, so it’s better to water too little than too much. The plant does not have specific nutritional needs and prefers well-drained soil.
