The Sansevieria zeylanica, also known as the Snake Plant, originates from Sri Lanka and India. The plant primarily grows on rocky soils, where it has developed excellent adaptation to survive in dry environments. This makes it a very resilient indoor plant that requires little maintenance.
Characteristics
The Sansevieria zeylanica is characterized by its stiff, upright leaves shaped like swords, with an interesting marbling pattern. The leaves are dark green with light green horizontal bands. The plant can reach up to a meter in height and has a slow growth rate. Additionally, the Sansevieria zeylanica is an air-purifying plant, which means it can improve indoor air quality by removing certain toxic substances.
Care
Caring for a Sansevieria zeylanica is relatively simple. The plant doesn’t need much water and thrives both in direct, intense light and in light shade. It’s important to avoid placing the plant in cold temperatures or windy conditions.
