Description

Origin
The Rhipsalis mauritiana, also known as the Mistletoe Cactus, originates from Mauritania. It grows in hot and humid jungles where it adapts to conditions by developing epiphytic properties (growing on other plants).

Characteristics

This unique plant is distinguished by its trailing growth pattern with many small branches ending in small spherical green leaves. Unlike most cacti, the Rhipsalis mauritiana does not have spines, but soft hook-shaped hairs. During the flowering period, this plant produces small white or light yellow flowers, followed by small red fruits.

Care

The Rhipsalis mauritiana requires a bright location but dislikes direct sunlight. Like other cacti, it is drought-tolerant and only needs water sporadically. Due to its epiphytic properties, it needs loose and aerated soil that allows water to pass through well – it will not thrive in compact and heavy soil. The plant withstands colder temperatures down to 10 degrees Celsius, though it prefers warmer conditions.
