Description

Origin
The Pleomele, also known as Dracaena reflexa, originates from Madagascar and other islands of the Indian Ocean, where it thrives in both rainforests and semi-deserts. In the wild, this plant can grow into large dwarf trees. It was introduced years ago to other warm climates and is now also popular as a houseplant in cooler regions, including Europe.

Characteristics

The Pleomele is characterized by its shiny, dark green leaves that grow in a spiral at the end of strong, woody stems. The leaves reflect light strikingly, giving the plant an elegant appearance. The impressive growth height, which can reach up to 6 meters in the wild, is generally limited to about 2 meters indoors. The small white flowers in clusters are also notable, which can easily be overlooked due to their modest size.

Care

For the care of the Pleomele, it is important to ensure plenty of indirect light, as direct sunlight can damage the leaves. It is recommended to let the soil dry slightly between waterings to prevent root rot. During growth in spring and summer, it is advisable to water the plant once a week. In winter, when the plant is dormant, watering should be reduced to once every two weeks. For healthy growth, it is advised to lightly feed the plant every two weeks with a balanced liquid fertilizer. It is important to maintain air humidity to prevent leaf loss.
