Origin
The Pleomele reflexa ‘Song of Jamaica’, better known as Dracaena reflexa, is an indoor plant native to Madagascar and the surrounding islands of the Indian Ocean. The plant belongs to the Asparagaceae family.
Characteristics
This plant is renowned for its distinctive leaves that are rich in color, usually in various shades of green with shoots of yellow. The leaves are shiny, lance-shaped, and spirally arranged around the trunk, creating an attractive effect. The ‘Song of Jamaica’ can reach a height of 3 meters when grown indoors, but can become even taller outdoors.
Care
The ‘Song of Jamaica’ requires moderately bright to semi-shaded areas without direct sunlight. It is recommended to water the plant regularly, but avoid overwatering as this could lead to root rot. A well-drained potting mix is ideal and it is beneficial to occasionally feed the plant with a moderate amount of liquid fertilizer. This plant can tolerate dry air well, but appreciates being occasionally misted with lukewarm water.
