Description
Origin
The Pleomele, officially Dracaena ‘Anita Variegata’, originates from Africa, Central America, and Asia. These are warm and tropical regions, from which the plant has spread worldwide. The plant has become especially popular as an indoor plant. It belongs to the Asparagaceae family and is closely related to the Yucca.
Characteristics
The Pleomele ‘Anita Variegata’ is distinguished by its long narrow, green-white leaves that curve obliquely outward. The plant’s stem stands upright, forming a bushy and full crown. The Pleomele grows compactly. It can reach a maximum height of about two meters, but its growth is relatively slow.
Care
A Pleomele requires a bright location but can also tolerate semi-shade. Direct sunlight is less well tolerated. The plant prefers a moderate temperature, as long as it is more consistent than at colder temperatures. Regarding watering, this plant has moderate needs: ensure the soil can dry slightly between waterings. Too much water can cause root rot, to which this plant is susceptible.
