Description
Origin
The Pleomele, officially Dracaena ‘Anita Variegata’, originates from Africa, Central America, and Asia. These are warm and tropical regions, from where the plant has spread across the world. It has become particularly popular as a houseplant. It belongs to the Asparagaceae family and is closely related to the Yucca.
Characteristics
The Pleomele ‘Anita Variegata’ is distinguished by its long, narrow, green-white leaves that curve outward obliquely. The stem of the plant stands upright, thus forming a bushy and full crown. The growth habit of the Pleomele is compact. It can reach a maximum height of about two meters, but its growth is relatively slow.
Care
A Pleomele requires a bright location but can also tolerate partial shade. Direct sunlight is less well tolerated. The plant prefers a moderate temperature, provided it is more constant than colder temperatures. In terms of watering, this plant has moderate needs: ensure that the soil can slightly dry out between waterings. Too much water can cause root rot, to which this plant is sensitive.
