Description
Origin
The Pittosporum tobira ‘Nana’, also known as the Dwarf Pittosporum, originates from Japan and South Korea. This plant belongs to the Pittosporaceae family and is naturally found in forests and coastal areas of East Asia. In the wild, this evergreen shrub can grow up to five meters tall.
Characteristics
The Pittosporum tobira ‘Nana’ is particularly notable for its dark green, glossy foliage that grows in a fan shape. The leaves are oval and acquire a red to orange hue in the fall. From late spring to early summer, the plant bears small white flowers with a delightfully sweet fragrance. The plant remains relatively small and compact, making it a popular choice for gardens, especially as an ornamental plant.
Care
This plant thrives best in well-draining soil and in a sunny or lightly shaded location. They require moderate watering; excess water should be avoided as the plant does not handle wet feet well. The Nana tolerates marine climates and light frosts, but protection against more severe frosts may be necessary. Pruning is not necessary for these plants, although it may be recommended to maintain shape or control growth.
