Description
Origin
The Pittosporum tobira ‘Nana’, also known as the Dwarf Pittosporum, originates from Japan and South Korea. This plant belongs to the Pittosporaceae family and is naturally found in forests and coastal areas of East Asia. In the wild, this evergreen shrub can reach up to five meters in height.
Characteristics
The Pittosporum tobira ‘Nana’ is particularly distinguished by its dark green, glossy foliage that grows in a fan shape. The leaves are oval and take on a red to orange hue in autumn. From late spring to early summer, the plant bears small white flowers with a delightfully sweet fragrance. The plant remains relatively small and compact, making it a popular choice for gardens, particularly as an ornamental plant.
Care
This plant thrives best in well-draining soil and in a sunny spot or light shade. They require moderate watering; excess water should be avoided as the plant is not tolerant of waterlogged conditions. The Nana tolerates marine climates and light frosts, but protection from more severe frosts may be necessary. Pruning is not necessary for these plants, although it may be recommended to maintain shape or control growth.
