Phyllostachys bissetii originates from the Sichuan province in China. This fast-growing bamboo is part of the Poaceae grass family. This species naturally grows in the temperate regions of eastern China. Despite its Asian origin, Phyllostachys bissetii has managed to spread worldwide, primarily through garden centers.
Characteristics
Phyllostachys bissetii is an evergreen bamboo with upright growth. The stems, or canes, can reach heights of up to six meters. The green canes and dark green foliage make the plant remarkable. The stems are very hard, which makes them practical for furniture manufacturing. Moreover, Phyllostachys bissetii has rapid growth, reflecting its classification as running bamboo.
Care
For optimal growth, Phyllostachys bissetii requires well-drained and fertile soil. It is advisable to plant a root barrier around the bamboo to prevent spreading. This bamboo species thrives in both full sun and partial shade and requires a moderate amount of water.
