Origin
The Philodendron ‘Prince of Orange’ is a tropical plant native to the rainforests of South America. The ‘Prince of Orange’ is part of the Araceae family, a vast and diverse genus of plants that also includes the popular Monstera and Anthurium. This species derives its name from the bright orange color of its new leaves, reminiscent of the Dutch royal family, the House of Orange.
Features
The ‘Prince of Orange’ is distinguished from other Philodendrons by its dynamic color change. New leaves reveal themselves in a bright orange hue and gradually change to dark green as they mature. The plant can reach about 60 centimeters in height. The large leaves are typical of the Araceae family and give the plant a robust and lush appearance. Additionally, this Philodendron does not show creeping or trailing growth, but it grows upright, making it an ideal potted plant.
Care
The ‘Prince of Orange’ prefers a bright to semi-shade location, but extreme direct sunlight should be avoided to prevent leaf burn. The plant thrives at a constant temperature between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius. In general, it does not require abundant water; just keep the soil slightly moist. During the growing season, from spring to autumn, the plant can benefit from regular fertilization. Although the plant is quite resilient, excessive watering and too cold temperatures will lead to discolored and drooping leaves.
