Description

Origin
The Philodendron ‘Prince of Orange’ is a tropical plant native to the rainforests of South America. The ‘Prince of Orange’ is part of the Araceae family, a large and diverse genus of plants that also includes the popular Monstera and Anthurium. This species gets its name from the bright orange color of its new leaves, reminiscent of the Dutch royal family, the House of Orange.

Characteristics

The ‘Prince of Orange’ differs from other Philodendrons through its dynamic color change. New leaves unfurl in a bright orange hue and gradually turn dark green as they mature. The plant can reach about 60 centimeters in height. The large leaves are typical of the Araceae family and give the plant a robust and lush appearance. Moreover, this Philodendron does not show creeping or hanging growth but grows upright, making it an ideal potted plant.

Care

The ‘Prince of Orange’ prefers a location in bright, indirect light to partial shade, but extreme direct sunlight should be avoided to prevent leaf burn. The plant thrives at a consistent temperature between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius. Generally, it does not require abundant water; it is enough to keep the soil slightly moist. During the growing period, from spring to fall, the plant can benefit from regular fertilization. Although the plant is quite resilient, overwatering and excessively cold conditions will lead to discolored and drooping leaves.
