Origin
Pennisetum Viridescens originates in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, but it is now readily available throughout Europe due to its ability to adapt to a wide range of climates and environments.
Characteristics
Pennisetum Viridescens is a graceful perennial grass. It has narrow, arching leaves that are deep green in summer and turn golden brown in the fall. The grass-like flowers are green to purple and typically appear in late summer, remaining attractive into winter. This grass can reach a height of 60 to 90 centimeters.
Maintenance
Pennisetum Viridescens requires well-drained soil and grows best in a sunny spot or partial shade. The plant prefers rich, moist soil but is also drought-tolerant once well established. Cold hardiness varies between species, so it’s important to choose a sheltered location when temperatures drop. Pruning can be done in the spring, just before new growth begins.
