Description
Origin
The Pennisetum ‘Red Head’, also known as Fountain Grass, originates from the warm regions of Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. This type of grass naturally grows in open and sunny areas. Due to its drought resistance, the ‘Red Head’ is often found in regions with dry climates and minimal rainfall.
Characteristics
The Pennisetum ‘Red Head’ is characterized by its graceful appearance and beautiful red panicles. It grows densely and bushily and can reach a height of 90 cm to 1.2 m. This grass species blooms from late summer to early fall with panicles that can vary from dark red to burgundy. Despite its exotic origin, the ‘Red Head’ is hardy and can withstand temperatures as low as -20 degrees Celsius.
Care
The care of Pennisetum ‘Red Head’ is relatively simple and requires little maintenance. This plant prefers sunlight but can also tolerate some shade. It adapts well to different soil types, but it prefers well-drained soil, and regular watering is recommended. It is not necessary to fertilize the ‘Red Head’, but doing so may promote its growth and flowering. In spring, before the new growing season, the ‘Red Head’ can be cut back to the ground to make way for new growth.
