Description
Origin
The Parodia leninghausii, also known as the Golden Ball Cactus, originates from Brazil and Paraguay. The plant belongs to the Cactaceae family and was named after the German botanist Wilhelm Lenninghaus. This type of cactus prefers rocky areas and is very tolerant of dry conditions, characteristic of its natural habitat in South America.
Characteristics
The characteristics of the Parodia leninghausii are the cylindrical to spherical shapes, covered with golden spines. Mature plants can reach a height of 15 to 40 cm and a diameter of 10 to 15 cm. The flowers that form on top of the cactus are typically yellow and can have a diameter of 6 cm. The plant also has a woolly crown from which flowers and fruits grow.
Care
Regarding care, Parodia leninghausii requires full sun or partial shade. The plant needs well-drained soil and should only be watered when the soil is completely dry, as too much water can cause root rot. During the winter months, it is advisable to reduce watering and not allow the temperature to drop below 10 degrees Celsius. It is important to note that this plant is susceptible to fungal infections, so good air circulation is essential.
