Description

Origin
The Pachypodium geayi is a species native to Madagascar. This plant grows wild in the dry and hot regions of the southern part of the island. Due to this origin, the plant is often called the Madagascar palm.

Characteristics

The Pachypodium geayi, also known as the Madagascar palm, is most recognizable for its thick trunk that resembles the shape of a palm tree. This plant has long thin leaves and long spines on the trunk and branches. Additionally, in summer, the plant produces beautiful white flowers. However, despite the external resemblance, the plant is not a true palm but belongs to the succulent family.

Care

The Pachypodium geayi is a plant that requires a sunny to semi-shade location and well-draining soil. It does not tolerate cold and should therefore be kept indoors during winter. Additionally, during the growing season, it is necessary to water the plant regularly, but it is important to avoid the soil becoming too damp to prevent root rot. In winter, when the plant is dormant, watering should be significantly reduced.
