Description
Origin
Myrtillocactus geometrizans originates from a cactus found in Central and North America. They are mainly present in the dry areas of Mexico. This plant belongs to the Cactaceae family, also known as the cactus family.
Characteristics
Myrtillocactus geometrizans is characterized by its dense blue-green ribs and cylindrical shape that branches as the plant ages. The plant can reach a height of 4 to 5 meters and has white flowers that appear in spring, followed by edible black-purple berries. This plant, known as the Whortleberry Cactus, has sharp spines distributed across its waxy surface.
Care
Care for Myrtillocactus geometrizans primarily focuses on sufficient sunlight, as it is a plant that naturally grows in the sun. They also require well-draining soil to avoid excess water – a sandy cactus mix is ideal. In terms of temperature, Myrtillocactus geometrizans can withstand lower temperatures down to about -6 degrees Celsius, but it’s best if the temperature doesn’t drop too often. During their growth in spring and summer, they need regular watering, but in winter, the soil can dry out between waterings.
