Description

Origin
The Monstera deliciosa, also known as the Swiss cheese plant, originates from the humid rainforests of Central and South America. In its natural habitat, it thrives in the dark understory or on trees where it climbs to gain more light. Its natural environment is a humid setting with moderate temperatures and a lot of shade.

Characteristics

The Monstera deliciosa is a vigorous green indoor plant with large shiny leaves that can reach 30 cm wide. Its features are the deep incisions in the leaves, giving the plant an exotic appearance. The plant can grow into a large bush or, with the help of a moss pole, into a climbing plant. The Monstera deliciosa can bloom under favorable conditions and produces an impressive greenish-white flower up to 20 cm long.

Care

The Monstera deliciosa requires a bright location, away from direct sunlight. The plant is not frost-resistant and thrives at a temperature between 18 and 25 degrees Celsius. The Monstera deliciosa needs moderate water; overwatering can cause root rot. It’s best to let the soil dry out a bit before watering again. The plant also appreciates a high humidity level, though it generally does well indoors. It can be pruned if necessary to control its size or to encourage new growth.
