Description

Origin
The Monstera deliciosa, also known as the Swiss cheese plant, originates from the tropical rainforests of Central and South America. In its natural habitat, it blooms in the dark undergrowth or on trees where it can climb to access more light. Its natural environment is humid with moderate temperatures and plenty of shade.

Characteristics

The Monstera deliciosa is a vigorous green houseplant with large glossy leaves that can reach 30 cm in width. Its characteristics include the deep incisions in the leaves, giving the plant an exotic appearance. The plant can develop into a large bush or, with the help of a moss pole, into a climbing plant. The Monstera deliciosa can bloom under favorable conditions and produces an impressive white-green flower that can reach 20 cm in length.

Care

The Monstera deliciosa requires a bright location, away from direct sunlight. The plant does not resist frost and thrives at a temperature between 18 and 25 degrees Celsius. The Monstera deliciosa needs moderate watering; overwatering can lead to root rot. It is best to let the soil dry out a bit before watering again. The plant also appreciates a high humidity level, but generally does well indoors. The plant can be pruned if necessary to control its size or to encourage new growth.
