Description

Origin
The Monstera deliciosa, also known as the Swiss cheese plant, originates from the tropical rainforests of Central and South America. In its natural habitat, it blooms in the dark undergrowth or on trees where it can climb to gain more light. Its natural environment is a humid climate with moderate temperatures and plenty of shade.

Characteristics

The Monstera deliciosa is a vigorous green indoor plant with large shiny leaves that can reach 30 cm wide. Its characteristics include the deep incisions in the leaves, giving the plant an exotic appearance. The plant can develop into a large bush or, with the help of a moss pole, into a climbing plant. Monstera deliciosa can bloom under favorable conditions, producing an impressive white-greenish flower up to 20 cm long.

Care

The Monstera deliciosa requires a bright spot, away from direct sunlight. The plant is not frost-resistant and thrives at temperatures between 18 and 25 degrees Celsius. Monstera deliciosa has moderate water needs; overwatering can cause root rot. It is preferable to let the soil dry a bit before watering again. The plant also appreciates high humidity levels, though generally does well indoors. The plant can be pruned if necessary to control its size or to stimulate new growth.
