Description

Origin
The Monstera deliciosa, also known as the Swiss cheese plant, originates from the tropical rainforests of Central and South America. In its natural habitat, it emerges in the dark understory or on trees where it can climb to get more light. Its natural environment is a humid setting with moderate temperatures and a lot of shade.

Characteristics

The Monstera deliciosa is a vigorous green indoor plant with large shiny leaves that can grow up to 30 cm wide. Its features are the deep incisions in the leaves, which give the plant an exotic appearance. The plant can develop into a large bush or, with the help of a moss pole, into a climbing plant. The Monstera deliciosa can flower under favorable conditions, producing an impressive white-green flower up to 20 cm long.

Care

The Monstera deliciosa requires a bright place, away from direct sunlight. The plant is not frost-resistant and thrives at a temperature between 18 and 25 degrees Celsius. The Monstera deliciosa needs moderate watering; overwatering can cause root rot. It’s best to let the soil dry out a bit before watering again. The plant also appreciates high humidity, but generally does well indoors. The plant can be pruned if necessary to control its size or to stimulate new growth.
