Origin
The Miscanthus sinensis ‘Strictus’, also known as “porcupine grass”, is a variety of Miscanthus, a genus of plants native to Asia. This variety is notably present in Japan, China, and Korea. However, Miscanthus sinensis ‘Strictus’ is also widely spread in Europe and North America, where it is often used as an ornamental plant in gardens and public green spaces.

Characteristics

The Miscanthus sinensis ‘Strictus’ is a perennial plant that can reach 2 meters in height. The features of this plant are its green leaves with striking yellow stripes and feathery, purple-brown flowers that appear in the fall. The plant has an upward growth and forms dense clumps. Moreover, in autumn and winter, the Miscanthus sinensis ‘Strictus’ adds to the garden’s color palette, as the leaves change to beautiful shades of brown.

Care

Regarding care, the Miscanthus sinensis ‘Strictus’ is not demanding. The plant is cold-resistant and tolerates most soils, although it prefers well-drained soil. Full sun or partial shade are the best locations for this plant.
