Description

Origin
The Miscanthus sinensis ‘Little Zebra’ is an ornamental grass native to East Asia. It is mainly found in Japan, China, and Korea, where it often grows on slopes, in valleys, and along rivers. The grass has been refined by selection to achieve the current ‘Little Zebra’ variety, cultivated as an ornamental plant both in East Asia and Western countries.

Characteristics

The Miscanthus sinensis ‘Little Zebra’ is known for its striking appearance. The grass has dark green leaves with bright yellow horizontal stripes, earning it the nickname ‘Little Zebra’. It can reach a height of 1.2 to 1.5 meters and produces feather-like, pink flowers in late summer or early fall, which persist into winter. Its growth is upright and compact, giving the plant a graceful and elegant appearance.

Care

The Miscanthus sinensis ‘Little Zebra’ thrives in full sun or partial shade and requires well-drained, fertile soil for its growth. It is a hardy grass that is drought-resistant but also requires regular watering. The plant is little to unaffected by diseases or pests. Pruning of this ornamental grass is generally unnecessary, except in early spring to remove dead leaves and stimulate new growth.
