Description

Origin
Laurus nobilis, better known as bay laurel, originates from the Mediterranean region. This historical species primarily grows in temperate and subtropical climates, on mountain slopes and in forested landscapes. The Laurel holds a special place in the history and mythology of ancient cultures, such as the Greeks and Romans, where it was a symbol of wisdom and victory.

Characteristics

Laurus nobilis is an evergreen shrub that can grow into a tree 10 to 15 meters tall. The plant is known for its oval, dark, and shiny leaves that release an aroma when crushed. White flowers adorn the plant in spring, followed by small black berries in autumn. The plant’s leaves are widely used in culinary arts.

Care

Laurus nobilis requires specific care routines to thrive. The plant prefers well-drained soil and a sunny to partially shaded location. In winter, the plant should be protected from cold winds and frost. Laurels are sensitive to waterlogging, so it is essential to water moderately and allow it to dry between waterings. For healthy growth, it is recommended to lightly prune the plant each year at the beginning of spring and to fertilize it.
