Description

Origin
The Hyophorbe lagenicaulis, often called the bottle palm, is native to Mascarene, an archipelago in the Indian Ocean. This unique plant thrives best in a tropical or subtropical climate. Although they originate from these islands, they are now found in gardens and indoors worldwide.

Characteristics

The Hyophorbe lagenicaulis is distinguished by its bottle-shaped trunk and elegant crown of pinnate leaves. This exotic specimen can reach up to 6 meters in height. The trunk often widens as the palm ages. The leaves of the bottle palm are dark green in color and can reach 90 cm in length. Additionally, the plant blooms in spring and summer.

Care

The Hyophorbe lagenicaulis prefers a warm and bright spot but does not tolerate direct sunlight. The plant requires moderate irrigation, and it is important to allow excess water to drain properly, as the plant’s roots do not tolerate waterlogging. Additionally, it is advisable to feed the plant every two weeks with a special palm fertilizer during the growing season. The Hyophorbe lagenicaulis does not withstand extreme cold well, so it is recommended to place the plant indoors in a cool location, but not below zero during the winter months.
