Description

Origin
The Ficus microcarpa ‘Nitida’ originates from the subtropical regions of India, Southeast Asia, and Northern Australia. It is part of the Moraceae family, which includes approximately 900 species. Traditionally, this tree is valued for its ornamental appeal and its ability to survive in extreme conditions, such as urban areas with poor air quality.

Characteristics

The Ficus microcarpa ‘Nitida’ is an evergreen tree or shrub with a dense, round crown. The leaves are shiny, dark green, elliptic to broadly ovate, and generally rounded at the base. Mature trees can reach a height of 15 to 20 meters, but indoors they are often limited to a size of one to two meters. The fruits of this plant are yellow-green and spherical but are rarely produced under cultivation conditions.

Care

Caring for the Ficus microcarpa ‘Nitida’ requires well-drained soil and sufficient sunlight. However, it can also grow in partial shade. This species tolerates drought and low nutrients well but responds positively to regular fertilization. Pruning can be done to maintain the desired shape and size, as the tree easily adapts to confined spaces and limited soil volumes. It is important to keep the soil moderately moist, but avoid overwatering to prevent root rot.
