Description

Origin
The Ficus microcarpa ‘Nitida’ is native to the subtropical regions of India, Southeast Asia, and Northern Australia. It belongs to the Moraceae family, which includes about 900 species. Traditionally, this tree is valued for its ornamental value and its ability to survive in extreme conditions, such as in urban areas with poor air quality.

Characteristics

The Ficus microcarpa ‘Nitida’ is an evergreen tree or shrub with a dense, rounded crown. The leaves are glossy and dark green in color, elliptical to broadly oval, and generally rounded at the base. Adult trees can reach a height of 15 to 20 meters, but indoors they are often limited to a size of one to two meters. The fruits of this plant are yellowish-green and spherical, but they are rarely produced under cultivation conditions.

Maintenance

The maintenance of the Ficus microcarpa ‘Nitida’ requires well-drained soil and sufficient sunlight. However, it can also grow in partial shade. This species is drought-tolerant and copes with low nutrients, but responds positively to regular fertilization. Pruning can be done to maintain the desired shape and size, as the tree easily adapts to confined spaces and limited soil volumes. It’s important to keep the soil moderately moist, but avoid overwatering to prevent root rot.
