Origin
The Ficus microcarpa ‘Nitida’ originates primarily from certain parts of Asia and Australia. This tree is also often found in tropical and subtropical regions around the world, being a popular ornamental plant for parks and gardens. Additionally, it is commonly used as a houseplant in temperate climate areas.
Characteristics
The Ficus microcarpa ‘Nitida’ is an evergreen tree and can reach a height of 15 meters. The plant has shiny, oval to elliptical leaves that grow closely together, giving the plant a lush appearance. The tree bears small fruits, ranging in color from light green to reddish-brown and approximately one centimeter in diameter. The bark is gray to light brown and can develop grooves with age.
Maintenance
For maintaining the Ficus microcarpa ‘Nitida’, it is important to know that the plant is naturally accustomed to an environment with high air humidity. It prefers a location with plenty of indirect light but can also tolerate a lot of shade. The plant should preferably be watered abundantly during the growing season and minimally in winter. To keep the plant healthy, it is good to dust the leaves regularly so they can continue to absorb light and air. Although the tree can also survive in cooler climates, it performs best at temperatures between 16 and 24 degrees Celsius.
