The Ficus lyrata ‘Bambino’, also known as dwarf Ficus lyrata, originates from West Africa, where it grows in the rainforest. There, this plant thrives in heat and humidity, and can develop into a tree of considerable size.
Characteristics
The Ficus lyrata ‘Bambino’ is a popular indoor plant, characterized by its glossy and attractive leaves that resemble a violin, hence its name. The leaves are small with an irregular, wavy edge, giving the plant a unique and graceful appearance. It is a slow-growing plant that typically reaches a height of about 80 centimeters, although it can become larger in ideal conditions.
Care
The Ficus lyrata ‘Bambino’ prefers a bright position but does not tolerate direct sunlight. It requires a stable temperature and consistently high air humidity, and its potting soil should be kept moist, although overwatering should be avoided. As this plant comes from a tropical environment, it will also benefit from occasional misting to increase air humidity. For optimal health, this plant should be repotted every two years, using a high-quality potting mix. Although the Ficus lyrata ‘Bambino’ is more resilient than some of its relatives, it can still be susceptible to pests, including spider mites and mealybugs.
