The Ficus lyrata ‘Bambino’, also known as the dwarf fiddle leaf fig, originates from West Africa, where it thrives in the rainforest. There, this plant flourishes in heat and humidity and can grow into a considerably sized tree.
Characteristics
The Ficus lyrata ‘Bambino’ is a popular indoor plant, characterized by its shiny, attractive leaves that resemble a violin, hence its name. The leaves are small with an irregular, wavy edge, giving the plant a unique and graceful appearance. It is a slow-growing plant that typically reaches a height of about 80 centimeters, although it can grow larger under ideal conditions.
Care
The Ficus lyrata ‘Bambino’ prefers a bright location but cannot tolerate direct sunlight. It needs a stable temperature and consistently high air humidity, and the soil should be kept moist, although overwatering should be avoided. As this plant originates from a tropical environment, it will also benefit from periodic misting to increase air humidity. For optimal health, this plant should be repotted every two years using high-quality potting soil. Although the Ficus lyrata ‘Bambino’ is more resilient than some of its relatives, it can still be susceptible to pests, including spider mites and scale insects. Therefore, regular inspection of the plant is recommended.
