Description

Origin
The Ficus lyrata has its roots in the tropical part of West Africa. It is found in countries such as Sierra Leone, Cameroon, and Côte d’Ivoire. Originally, the plant grows in the lowlands of tropical forests, where it adapts to varied and complex environments.

Characteristics

A remarkable feature of Ficus lyrata is its large, glossy leaves shaped like a violin, hence its nickname. These leaves can reach a length of up to thirty centimeters and often have a deep, rich green color. The plant itself can also become quite large, up to about three meters indoors and many times larger outdoors. Ficus lyrata is part of the Moraceae family and produces miniature figs as fruits.

Care

Regarding care, Ficus lyrata needs plenty of light, but it should not be placed in full sun as its leaves can burn. The plant requires moderate watering and should be allowed to dry partially between waterings. Too much water can cause root rot, a common issue with this species. Ficus lyrata thrives best at room temperature and likes high humidity, which is common in its natural habitat, the rainforest.
