Description

Origin
The Ficus lyrata, also commonly known in French as the Fiddle-leaf fig, originates in West Africa. It can be found in tropical forests, notably from Cameroon to Côte d’Ivoire. It belongs to the Moraceae family. In the wild, the Ficus lyrata can become a tree reaching up to 12 meters in height.

Characteristics

The Ficus lyrata is popular due to its remarkable leaves, which are broad and resemble the shape of a violin, hence its nickname. Its glossy leaves are thick and have striking veins that contrast with the vibrant green color of the leaf. It is a hardy indoor plant and air purifier that thrives perfectly indoors. Its growth is relatively slow, but with proper care, it can reach several meters in height at home.

Care

The Ficus lyrata requires specific care for optimal growth. It needs plenty of indirect sunlight and prefers a warm and humid environment similar to its original habitat. Additionally, the plant requires careful water management, ensuring the roots do not remain in water. The soil should be well-drained to prevent root rot. During the growth period in spring and summer, it is necessary to fertilize the plant regularly.
