Origin
The Ficus elastica ‘Robusta’, better known as the rubber plant, originates from Southeast Asia. This plant grows in the wild in the rainforests of India, Indonesia, and Malaysia, among others. With colonization, this plant found its way to other parts of the world.
Characteristics
The Ficus elastica ‘Robusta’ is a popular houseplant due to its typical characteristics. The plant has large, glossy leaves that are dark green in color. Additionally, under good conditions, the plant can reach a height of 30 meters, but indoors it is generally limited to a height of 2 to 3 meters. The trunk of the Ficus elastica ‘Robusta’ is thick and woody.
Care
The care of Ficus elastica ‘Robusta’ requires some attention. The plant likes plenty of light, but not direct sunlight. Furthermore, the plant prefers a constant temperature and high humidity, which is typical of its natural tropical habitat. Keep the soil well-moisturized but avoid waterlogging to prevent root rot.
