The Ficus elastica ‘Belize’, also known as the rubber tree, originates from Southeast Asia, particularly in India and Indonesia. It is a popular indoor plant from the Moraceae family that can thrive well in tropical and subtropical climates.
Characteristics
The Ficus elastica ‘Belize’ is a robust, upright plant with green, glossy leaves approximately 25 cm long. Additionally, the Belize has a unique feature: the leaves display a striking variety of green-yellow with a bit more white veins. The plant can grow up to 2 meters tall indoors, but in its natural environment, it can reach heights of up to 30 meters.
Maintenance
Maintaining the Ficus elastica ‘Belize’ is relatively simple, provided that a few basic principles are followed. The plant thrives both in bright indirect light and a shaded environment, but it must be protected from direct sunlight. Water should be given when the soil surface feels dry, and excess water must be avoided at all costs. High humidity is beneficial for the Belize, but it also survives in a less humid environment. The plant has no specific nutritional requirements but does well with a general plant fertilizer.
