Description

Origin
Ficus cyathistipula originally comes from the tropical regions of Africa, specifically the central and western parts. This plant, which can be found in many different habitats, notably populates tropical forests, mangroves, and areas near rivers. Also known as the African fig tree, this species is an important part of African flora.

Characteristics

Ficus cyathistipula is an evergreen shrub or small tree that can reach up to 12 meters in height. The characteristics of this ficus are its elliptical to oval leaves, which are brilliantly green and can grow up to 18 cm long. The plant produces what are called figs, which are actually flowers encapsulated in a protective structure. These are small, round, and grow in pairs. They start green but turn red as they mature.

Care

Ficus cyathistipula requires a warm environment and does not tolerate temperatures below 15°C well. The plant requires well-drained soil and needs to be watered regularly, especially during the growing period. Although the plant likes light, direct sunlight should be avoided, as it can damage the leaves. The plant can be cultivated indoors or outdoors, but must be moved indoors when the temperature begins to drop.
