Description
Origin
The Ficus cyathistipula originally comes from the tropical regions of Africa, specifically the central and western parts. This plant, which can be found in many different habitats, especially inhabits rainforests, mangroves, and near rivers. Also known as the African Fig, this species is an important part of African flora.
Characteristics
The Ficus cyathistipula is a shrub or small evergreen tree that can reach up to 12 meters in height. The characteristics of this ficus are its elliptical to oval leaves, which are brilliantly green and can be up to 18 cm long. The plant produces what are called figs, which are actually flowers encapsulated in a protective structure. These are small, round, and grow in pairs. They begin green but turn red as they mature.
Care
The Ficus cyathistipula requires a warm environment and does not tolerate temperatures below 15°C well. The plant requires well-drained soil and needs watering regularly, especially during the growth period. Although the plant likes light, direct sunlight should be avoided as it can damage the leaves. The plant can be grown indoors or outdoors but must be moved indoors when the temperature starts to drop.
